Der Grundstein für den Erfolg in Europa: Frankreich

The foundation for Mahalia Jackson's international fame was laid in France, even before she set foot on European soil. Following the success of her Apollo recordings, and in particular "I Can Put My Trust in Jesus," she was awarded a prestigious prize by the Académie Charles Cros in Paris in 1951, often referred to as the "French Oscar."

French jazz critic Hugues Panassié was already fascinated by their recordings in 1949 and played them regularly on his radio show, which led to Vogue Records releasing their music in Europe.

Mahalia performed four concerts in France:
1952, 1961, 1968, 1969.
